ⓘ Why the birth time matters

Your birth time fixes the Ascendant (Lagna) and the houses — the backbone of the whole reading. The Ascendant moves about 1° every 4 minutes, and a whole sign every ~2 hours.

  • Within ~1 minute — essentially exact; everything holds.
  • ~5 minutes off — the Ascendant degree shifts a little; apart from rare cases right on a sign edge, the reading stands.
  • ~10 minutes — fine divisional charts (navāṃśa) and the Moon’s pada can wobble near boundaries; most of the report is still sound.
  • ~1 hour — the Ascendant can jump to the next sign, moving every house and much of the house-based meaning; the Moon’s nakṣatra/pada and the daśā timeline can shift by months or years. Large parts may be wrong.
  • ~2 hours — the Ascendant is likely a different sign and the Moon may be in a different nakṣatra; most of the chart, and so most of the report, is unreliable.
  • Days off — the Moon’s sign and nakṣatra are probably wrong, and with them the heart of the reading. Treat it as a different chart.
  • If you only know the day, a reading is still possible, but treat house and timing claims with caution — and consider a birth-time rectification.
